Summit in Singapore is First Site to Achieve CDSA Content Protection and Security Certification

9 June 2008 - Hong Kong - Summit CD Manufacture Pte. Ltd., a leading replicator of CD and DVD in Singapore, is the first site certified under the Content Delivery and Storage Association’s Anti-Piracy and Compliance Programs (APCP): Content Protection and Security.  The certification resulted from a comprehensive examination and review of Summit’s electronic and physical security systems and procedures by independent auditors. Summit Singapore has been certified in the CDSA intellectual property – copyright compliance program since October 2002, being one of the first media manufacturers in Asia to certify as anti-piracy compliant in the global program.

Mr. K.C. Lee, Summit Chairman and Managing Director, said, “We are extremely proud of this achievement, as Summit CD - Singapore is the first plant in the world to be awarded this content protection – security certification.” He added, “We were very honored when first approached if Summit CD would be keen to be the Beta test site for this program. Being already a certified APCP plant, we saw this as a logical extension to our commitment towards Intellectual Property Rights protection and we were confident of meeting the standards set for this program. With the ongoing concern among industry players with IP piracy, Summit CD being a forerunner in the optical media industry is prepared to take the lead with the CDSA APCP: Content Protection and Security Program.”

CDSA’s Anti-Piracy and Compliance Programs Director in Asia, James Wise, managed the certification process and implementation of the Content Protection and Security Standards at Summit Singapore. He noted, “We knew Summit had a strong commitment to protecting customers’ content and assets, so it was an excellent choice for the first certification under these Standards. As expected, the Summit personnel worked diligently towards achieving this award. I heartily congratulate them on this achievement, and thank them for their efforts to launch this program.”

The CDSA Content Protection and Security standards and procedures are part of the association’s global array of anti-piracy and compliance programs providing content protection from copyright infringement, security violations, and distribution losses of physical and electronic media. Under these programs, which are supported by owners of intellectual property including music, films, games and business software supply chain partners, comply with a stringent set of systems and procedures, cumulating in comprehensive, independent audits. CDSA, formerly the International Recording Media Association (IRMA), initiated its anti-piracy programs in 1999 in response to requests from content owners and media manufacturers. Its expansion of the content delivery protection programs reflects the dramatic changes within the industry to satisfy customers’ demands and entertainment habits.

The Summit Singapore content protection – security certification coincides with the certification of the first digital download supply chain facility as being anti-piracy compliant for authorized distribution of intellectual property to end-use customers on the Internet.  These standards are integral elements of the expanded CDSA Anti-Piracy and Compliance Programs to protect intellectual property delivered along the media-to-market supply chain.

Timothy J. Gorman, Director – Worldwide Anti-Piracy and Compliance Programs, said, “The Summit Singapore achievement is significant on a number of levels, not the least being a further strengthening of the content delivery supply chain. Content owners rely on their supply chain partners to protect their intellectual property and Summit, as the other APCP-compliant facilities around the world, voluntarily provide this value-added service to safeguard music, films and software. This achievement sets the bar even higher as we fight piracy along the content delivery supply chain.”

The CDSA Anti-Piracy and Compliance Programs (APCP) are well established in North and South America, Europe, South Africa and Asia with 100 media manufacturing plants and other supply chain sites participating in the programs endorsed by the world’s leading content owners and their associations.

The CDSA programs contain the industry’s first set of international anti-piracy standards and are major indicators for record labels, movie studios, computer software and game publishers to identify supply chain partners which have implemented these programs to prevent losses through piracy and security violations.  They were developed with input and support from the CDSA Anti-Piracy Coalition, comprised of media manufacturers, content delivery suppliers, content owners and their organizations including the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), the Motion Picture Association (MPA), the Business Software Alliance (BSA), the Software Information Industry Association (SIIA), the Digital Software Association (DSA), the International Video Federation (IVF), the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), Microsoft and the Bureau International des Sociétés Gérant les Droits d'Enregistrement et de Reproduction Mécanique (BIEM).
